On January 1, 2011, Scott Whalen, Ph.D., FACHE, took over as Saint Vincent Health System’s president and chief executive officer, replacing retired CEO Angela Bontempo. Whalen brings 16 years of executive leadership experience in health care to this position, plus an additional 13 years of medical research experience. The Business Magazine recently asked Whalen to share his thoughts on the future of Saint Vincent, Erie’s oldest medical institution founded by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Northwestern Pennsylvania in 1875, and the state of health care nationwide.
