The workplace is constantly changing and so are the demands on employers. What role does the HR function play in the success of your organization overall?
The HR function first and foremost allows us to ensure that we are treating employees as our internal customers, which we hope will in turn result in the best possible service being given to our external customers. HR is important in facilitating open lines of communication, team building, as well as developing career paths and organizational management and succession planning, all critically important in a small business.
What are some strategies that you’ve used to engage your employees and boost morale?
Over the past year we have been working closely with our Board of Directors and management to identify staff strengths. We have developed a leadership program enabling peers to work with a consultant to develop strategies to capitalize on these strengths. We have been pleased to witness a number of our staff members rise to the occasion in dealing with challenges experienced due to day to day operations and also on a broader scale.
