Association Hosts First HR/Employment Law Conference

1271

The Manufacturer & Business Association hosted its first ever Human Resource and Employment Law Conference on Friday, October 11, with more than 75 human resource professionals from northwest Pennsylvania in attendance.

The day was full of interactive sessions, thought provoking information and numerous networking opportunities with sponsors – and attendees heard from three highly acclaimed keynote speakers who literally wrote the book on leadership and people-management strategies.

  • Marty Clarke, author of “Leadership Landmines,” delivered a wickedly funny presentation identifying some specific behaviors that cripple a leader’s ability to make good decisions under pressure, and unveiled strategies that will make a dramatic improvement in their decision-making capability.
  • Jim Roddy, author of “Hire Like you Just Beat Cancer,” was forced to step away from his job and co-workers for an extended period of time due to cancer. That’s when he really realized that the people you hire can truly make or break your business. Jim shared the hiring principles he learned, and best practices that ensure you have and keep the best people working for you.
  • The last keynote speaker, Jay Hawreluk, author of “Unraveling the Mystery of People,” and creator of the AcuMax Index Survey, which assesses an individual’s natural wiring – their motivation style, thought process, communication method, work preference and decision-making approach, delivered a powerful message on learning how to effectively communicate and work with others based on each individual’s wiring.

Attendees also received the latest updates on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act from Buck Consultants, as well as changes in employment law, including FMLA regulations, EEOC, child labor and the new Form I-9, from MBA Employment Law Counsel Tammy Lamary-Toman.

The day ended with wonderful prize giveaways from our sponsors, including a gift basket from the Association won by Donna Rekitt of Maple Donuts. Donna received a Kindle Fire HD, along with golf shirts and a $250 gift certificate toward the Association’s HR services.

Thank you to everyone that attended and we hope to see everyone at next year’s conference on Friday, October 10, 2014.
