2016 Patrick R. Locco Scholarship Award Winners Announced

ERIE — The Manufacturer & Business Association announced the winners of the Patrick R. Locco Scholarship Awards during its third annual Manufacturing Day celebration on October 5, 2016 at the Bayfront Convention Center.

Winners are: Ashley Cass, Erie County Technical School; Kyle Breitfelder, Crawford County Career and Technical Center; Brik Bateman, Mercer County Career Center; Kyle Hurd, Corry Area Career and Technical Center; and Brandon Tenon, Central Career and Technical School.

A $1,000 scholarship has been awarded to winners to assist them in future academic endeavors, and their names are inscribed on plaques prominently displayed at their respective high schools. Nominees each received their awards prior to the event.

Nominees included: Jonathan Thornton, Sean Kress and Mirranda Young, Erie County Technical School; Daniel Carlson, Melanie Ann McClearn, Cody Passilla and Andrew Vorisek, Crawford County Career and Technical Center; Joshua Smith, Alan Grant Williams III, Joseph Gaydek and Dominic Vadala, Mercer County Career Center; Kegan Keener, Makayla Miller, Emma Smith and Emily Eiss, Corry Area Career and Technical Center; and Vadim Dyachkin, Christian Stafford, Steven Howard and Tobiah Riley, Central Career and Technical School.

The Locco Awards were created by the Association to recognize outstanding high school students who distinguish themselves in pursuit of technical and academic excellence. Students must be nominated by a teacher to be considered. Each school narrows the nominees to their top five candidates. These students are interviewed by local businesspeople who choose the winners.
