ROAR® Presents Donation to St. Martin Center New Playground Project

ERIE — Before a crowd of more than 1,000 business and community leaders, the Manufacturer & Business Association (MBA) Board of Governors and the Roar on the Shore Board of Directors presented a $40,000 donation to 2016 ROAR® rally charity, the St. Martin Center New Playground Project, during the MBA’s 111th Annual Event on Wednesday, October 5 at the Bayfront Convention Center, 1 Sassafras Pier.

The donation includes proceeds from the 10th anniversary charitable bike rally, which drew more than 165,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country to downtown Erie on July 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

Following the check presentation, MBA and Roar Chairman Don Hester also announced the Mercy Center for Women as the 2017 rally beneficiary. The Mercy Center for Women is a ministry of the Sisters of Mercy that provides safe and supportive transitional housing, education and counseling for homeless women in the region. ROAR® 2017 – Erie’s “Official Bike Week” is scheduled for July 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16 in downtown Erie.

Since ROAR® began in 2007, the MBA and Roar® boards have donated approximately $840,000 to charitable organizations, including the John Kanzius Cancer Research Fund, Shriners Hospitals for Children – Erie, local Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom veterans and their families, SafeNet’s Big Backyard Children’s Garden, the Flight 93 National Memorial Campaign, Perry 200 Commemoration, the Boys & Girls Club of Erie, St. Patrick’s Haven and St. Martin Center New Playground Project.
